The complete orchestral film score by Joshua Stamper for 'Horse & Rider', a Ben Stamper Picture in association with Freedom Firm.
ABOUT THE FILM:
Increasingly, many independent filmmakers and activists are turning their attention to human trafficking, the modern-day slavery that is practiced by nearly every country in the world. 'Horse & Rider: A Journey Towards Freedom' is a non-conventional look into an industry that is growing at exponential rates: selling and buying minors for sex.
Shot on location in India in 2011, this narrative documentary traces the tangled memories of two survivors of child prostitution who have become friends in an aftercare program run by Freedom Firm, an NGO in southern India. There, the two friends study multiple languages, earn money making jewelry and helping local disabled children using horse therapy. Award-winning Director Ben Stamper draws heavily upon monumental cinematography and a lush musical score to explore the complexities of rescuing minors from brothels and their subsequent journey of restoration into a society largely intolerant of women who have been sexually exploited.
'Horse & Rider' is a cinematic pilgrimage from Ooty to Mumbai to Calcutta with riveting firsthand accounts from former victims and family members. The stories hold together through the interweaving of the vibrant shades of India, forming an enigmatic realism that is as captivating as it is sobering. Despite the emotional intensity of the subject matter, this documentary is rich in symbolism that encourages multiple viewings. 'Horse & Rider' is a documentary film that leaves commentary to the audience as it presents the tragic and heroic dimensions of the human condition with an imaginative lyricism and beauty.
